Epilepsy Essentials and Learning Impacts and Classroom Strategies

Designed for teachers and support staff, this training covers epilepsy, seizure first aid, management strategies, and practical ways to support student learning.

Description

Overview

Epilepsy can affect how a student learns, concentrates and engages in the classroom, while seizures and epilepsy more broadly are often misunderstood. With around 1 in 150 Australians living with epilepsy, it is important that school staff understand both the condition and how to respond when a seizure occurs.

This course provides a practical introduction to epilepsy, covering seizure types, seizure first aid and safety, as well as the impact epilepsy can have on thinking, learning and classroom participation. Developed by epilepsy and education experts, including occupational therapists, neuropsychologists, teachers and nurses, it combines essential epilepsy knowledge with evidence-informed strategies to support students in the school environment.

Through interactive content, real-life video examples and case studies, you'll build confidence in recognising challenges, responding appropriately, and creating a supportive learning environment for students with epilepsy.
